Please help with Caboose Challenge Grant.

Dear Friend,
We are pleased to announce that the City’s Railroad Museum (RRM) is the beneficiary of another challenge grant in the amount of $2000.  Inspired by the success of the previous model layout challenge grant, two anonymous donors have stepped forward with a new challenge to raise even more funds to begin the process of restoring the Museum’s historic and rare 1890s caboose.

Restoration efforts heretofore have been slowed because of limited funding available to the museum. When fully matched, the grant will be used as a financial base to begin much needed structural repairs necessary to make the caboose sound enough to accept visitors and be open for tours even while undergoing further restoration efforts. We look forward to opening the caboose to the public and share this “community caboose” with children and adults so that they may learn from this wonderful artifact of railroading history.

The Centennial Caboose
The terms of the grant provide a match of up to $2000 when the Foundation independently raises a like amount - in other words, doubling the power of our fundraising.  Volunteers, model railroad clubs and local businesses will also be asked to contribute.

Given your past support of the museums and your demonstrated commitment to their success, we are requesting your help to maximize the RRM challenge. Your tax deductible contribution would be very much appreciated.
Donors to this new challenge grant will be invited to an exclusive special preview tour of the caboose before we open it to the public. More importantly, your assistance will help the Museum upgrade its exhibits and help improve its educational programming, while being a part of restoring history.

If you have any questions about this request, please feel free to call the Railroad Museum at 575-647-4480. Or, of course, feel free to visit the RRM, located at 351 N. Mesilla St., during normal exhibition hours: Thursday, Friday or Saturday 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

On behalf of all the RRM staff and volunteers and the Foundation for Las Cruces Museums, thank you for your consideration of this request.

Donations may be mailed to Foundation for Las Cruces Musuems, P.O. Box 2783, Las Cruces, NM 88004-2783. Please note “Caboose Challenge” on your check.
Sincerely yours,

Cheryl Fallstead
President
