Friends of Las Cruces Museums: Holiday Ornament Making Classes

The Las Cruces Railroad Museum will offer ornament making classes on Saturday, December 10 and Saturday, December 17 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Drop by anytime and make your choice of ornaments. Several types of ornaments will be available, including foam picture frames, Pearler beads (melty beads), and wooden trains to paint. Open to all children ages 6 and up, with parental attendance encouraged. Cost: $1.00 donation at time of class.

MoNaS Design Firm Wins Prestigious Award

The City of Las Cruces’ Museum of Nature & Science (MoNaS,) currently located at the Mesilla Valley Mall, is scheduled to open at its new location in the Downtown Mall Nov. 2^nd, 2012. And the firm designing exhibits for the new MoNaS has won the American Association of Museums’ 2011 “Excellence in Exhibitions” award.

Reich+Petch Design International received the award for their work on the Age of Mammals Gallery for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. The L.A. museum recently loaned Paleozoic Trackways specimens for use in the new MoNaS.

Reich+Petch Design International completed the MoNaS Master Plan and has been working with Las Cruces museum staff on the MoNaS project since 2009.

“We are pleased to bring the talents of this internationally renowned museum design firm to our new museum project. We are confident that Las Cruces will create a world-class science museum with the assistance of Reich+Petch,” says director of museums, Will Ticknor.
